Kampout for KAIR 2018

Kampout For KAIR is a 24-hour food drive to benefit Kalkaska Area Interfaith Resources (KAIR).  Beginning at 5pm on Friday, October 12th, and running until 5pm on Saturday, October 13th, we'll be collecting non-perishable food and personal hygiene that will be delivered directly to KAIR. Drop off locations will be set up at Bill Marsh Kalkaska, Northland Foods, Family Fare and Save A Lot (all Kalkaska locations).  Check out www.Kampout.org to learn more about this event.

Frederic Satellite Meal

The Community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Frederic Satellite Meal on Friday, October 12th at 12:00pm at the Frederic Township Hall. The lunch includes Cranberry Chicken Breast, Peas & Carrots, and an Apple. Lunch is open to the public. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3.00 for those 60 and over and a $5.00 cost for those under 60. Munson Home Health will provide blood pressure & sugar checks and Bingo will be played following the meal. Please call (989) 348-7123 for a reservation today. The Frederic Township Hall is located at 6470 Manistee, Frederic.

A Matter of Balance

The Crawford County Commission on Aging will be offering a free series of 8 classes on the subject of preventing falls called, A Matter of Balance.The classes will be held twice a week for 4 weeks Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 12pm at the Grayling Michigan Works Office, 4595 Salling. Sanctuary Cinema Series – Mindjimendamowin

Mindjimendamowin is a short documentary film that highlights the journey of a young, contemporary Anishinaabe man in a birch bark canoe. Our young man follows the Old Shore Indian Trail (now US 23) carved out by his ancestors along the shores of Lake Huron. The film showcases the natural beauty of NE Michigan as well as educating the audience on the historical sites and oral stories along the route from Saginaw Bay to Mackinaw City. Mindjimendamowin uses poetry, storytelling, and music as well as traditional narration from Native American elders to tell this story. Free and open to the public.
