Forestry Field Day

Cherryland Humane Society Volunteer Orientation

CHS is always in need of volunteers! 
Meet new people with similar interests, get out in the community and make a difference, all while getting a little pet therapy for yourself!

Orientations are held on the 2nd Saturday of every month at 9:00 am
There are many different ways you can help the animals at CHS! At orientation, you will learn animal behavior and handling, how to communicate with the animals and all about our new animal enrichment activities. Cleaning, laundry, landscaping, clerical, and helping with community events are just a few of the assignments available at Cherryland Humane Society!

Traverse City Journey Program

The Journey Program, who offers exercise programs in a gym setting for cancer patients, announces Grand Opening at Battle Fitness location with a special event.

 Annemarie Wigton, the co-founder of The Journey Program, launches their 10 Week Program at a new location this fall at Battle Fitness, just south of Chums Corner. They are pleased to now be able to offer their services at a location to clients in a rural demographic.  


Battle Fitness will officially welcome The Journey Program during their upcoming Open House, on September 8th, from 1-5 pm. Festivities include: touring the facility, grilling out, enjoying music and beer, playing yard games, competitive games, kids activities, raffling prizes, and just having some good social time as the summer winds down. Annemarie will be available during the event to answer any questions attendees may have about The Journey Program.

The Journey Program, based in Traverse City, Frankfort, and Suttons Bay, Michigan offers exercise programs in a gym setting for cancer patients. The goal of The Journey Program is to improve the participants’ quality of life through exercise. Participants are supported during treatment and recovery helping them transition back into their lives after cancer.

Rich has retired after 24 years coaching in Grayling. He has the most wins in Grayling history. We have a great lineup of his former colleagues and athletes ready to roast him. 

A Tribute to Our Heroes Concert

The Charlevoix Elks Lodge is hosting A Tribute to Our Heroes with a rock concert by Madison Rising in the Charlevoix Pavilion on Sept 8th @ 7p. This band hails from the greater New York area and is led by Air Force Veteran Rio Hiett with support from Samuel Fishman, AJ Larsen, and Tom DiPietro. After gaining national recognition for their rocked-out rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, they have toured around the world. The band hopes to bring more attention to issues like PTSD. This event is free but accepts donations. Any donations that exceed the cost of this event will go to the Charlevoix Elks Charity Fund to meet the needs of veterans and first responders in our community. Early News from Mesick

Museum is displaying news from yesteryear. Old local Newspapers i.e. Sherman Pioneer, Mesick Sun and early Cadillac Evening News will be displayed. Come and read the musings of F.E. Rice, Floyd Gates and other newsmen. Browse real life stories of the Mesick pioneers. Also, displaying a collection of Ernest Belville’s stories from the early years.
