Get the Scoop on Down Syndrome

From 11:00AM to 9:00PM

The Down Syndrome Association of Northwest Michigan (DSANM) presents a celebration of World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). All over the World, it is celebrated on 3/21 (the 21st day of the 3rd month selected to signify the triplication of the 21st chromosome that results in Down syndrome). On this day we celebrate adults and children living well with Down syndrome. Our celebration(s) will raise awareness and help advocate for people with Down syndrome and will encourage their abilities, accomplishments, and potential. First, on Sunday, March 18th, Moomers Homemade Ice Cream is welcoming the DSANM with a "Get the Scoop on Down Syndrome" promotion and awareness day at their location at 7263 N. Long Lake Road in Traverse City. Visit Moomers (from 11am - 9pm) and they will donate 10% of all sales to DSANM. By visiting Moomers and making a purchase you are showing support for people living well with Down syndrome right here in our home community! While you're there, view photos of our children and meet local DSANM families. Our last celebration will be on Wednesday, March 21st at LaSenorita (US 31 location only) from 11am – 11 pm. They will donate 20% of sales to DSANM to those with a LaSenorita coupon/voucher. Please visit our website for vouchers and flyers. click on announcements/events. LaSenorita will accept their voucher from your tablet or smartphone. The DSANM wishes to thank Moomers Homemade Ice Cream and LaSenorita for their ongoing and continued support. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon commented on World Down Syndrome Day, stating: "On this day, let us reaffirm that persons with Down syndrome are entitled to the full and effective enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms. Let us each do our part to enable children and persons with Down syndrome to participate fully in the development and life of their societies on an equal basis with others. Let us build an inclusive society for all."
